The new Apperley Centre provides a wonderful environment for the education of our post 16 students who have severe or profound learning disabilities. Roberts Limbrick engaged with us from the very beginning, listened carefully and took time to understand the particular needs of our students. This approach has resulted in a fantastic building that we are very proud of. - Jane Jones, Head Teacher

The Apperley Centre

Stonehouse, Gloucestershire

A new Post 16 Special School, built on a tight triangular brownfield site adjacent to a secondary school in Stonehouse. The teaching and support spaces are arranged around a large, central, flexible heart space with glazing to the heart space and corridors providing important visual links between the inside spaces and the outside courtyard which is protected by the building from the external public areas to the front. The building presents a simple, contemporary design utilising a limited palette of materials and sitting low and quietly within the site to prevent any visual impact upon the adjacent residential properties.
