Halesowen Leisure Centre: before and after

Last year, our team saw the completion of Halesowen Leisure Centre’s major upgrade. The £8.7 million refurbishment took place over two phases, allowing the centre to open to the public in 2022.

We worked closely with Speller Metcalfe and Alliance Leisure to deliver the project for Dudley Council, ensuring that the centre remained open to the public throughout the process. Upgraded facilities include a pool, fitness gym, wellness suite, cafe, children’s play area, and a new entrance, offering a range of activities to people of all ages and abilities. A new lift was also added to make the centre highly accessible throughout. As well as upgraded facilities, the centre's appearance has been updated with a new façade.

One of the most rewarding parts of a refurbishment project is looking back at the ‘before’ shots to see just how far the project has come. Scroll through the images below to see how we transformed a tired, dated leisure facility into a modern community hub.

The façade

The main entrance was repositioned to improve accessibility, and we introduced glazing to create a welcoming and engaging frontage.

Fitness gym

The existing fitness gym was opened up and floor-to-ceiling glazing was added to create a more dynamic space.

Circulation spaces

We revamped tired circulation spaces with inspirational wall art and wayfinding signage.

Pool hall

We completely transformed the main pool hall. A dividing boom was added, and new floor-to-ceiling windows provide active views from the main reception and café areas. The tired and dated finishes were replaced to create a clean and contemporary look.

Soft play

The learner pool was no longer needed so the tank was infilled, and the space was transformed into a multi-storey soft play zone with seating and a food servery area. Full-height glazing was installed to link the area with the café and main reception.

Changing village

We completely replanned and overhauled the tired, dated changing rooms to create an inviting and inclusive changing village.
